Wikipedia, the most popular encyclopedia on the web, is expected to be available on DVD-ROM on January 2010. This version was created specially to be distributed in Argentina’s schools without internet connection and probably in the future this version will be offered to other countries.

Wikipedia was created in 2001 as a free project and now still with this philosophy, which made it so popular and probably the biggest encyclopedia on the world.

Google Phone on January 2010?

Google is working to launch a smartphone on January 2010. According to American press, the device is on test stage.

For Google employees, the only ones authorized to test the phone, the device is elegant and better than the iPhone, with a bigger touch screen and Android operating system.

Nexus One will be the name of Google’s phone and will be manufactured by a Taiwanese company. With this move, Google looks for conquer the mobile market.

Wikipedia into a device…lot to think

From now everyone can consult Wikipedia in everywhere and any time without an internet connection . This is possible thanks to Wikireader, a small device which stores 3 million of Wikipedia articles.

Wikireader was created by Openmoko, a Taiwan company. This device allows the user read the articles in a small monochrome screen.

Although Wikipedia offers its content for free, this device will cost $99 dollars and all the articles are in English language. Their users will update its content for $29 dollars by year.

This device is very usefull but what about the users who wrote the content for free?, how will they benefit with this?, who’s the winner of this? Obviously isn’t the users or the knowledge because this device is very expensive. Wikipedia has to explain why allows the marketing of free content.

Microsoft launched a new security update

Tomorrow Microsfot will launch a new security update for Windows operating system. This update includes 13 security bulletins, of wich 8 are critical.

The update is one of the largest and will fix 34 problems wich affect the security and stability of the system, including programs like Internet Explorer.

This bulletin pack will be available from Microsoft website and Windows Update.

We live in a beautiful era where all kind of information is available for everyone thanks to the web, but is this will be forever? Don’t think so.

The web still discovering its potential, and that means try new things. For now the trend is a free wave era where all of us can read the news, watch TV programs and more for free…but this is gonna change.

Nowadays the market model from the web is based on the ads to produce enough profit to maintain the free access philosophy…but for the owners of newspapers or popular sites like YouTube this model isn’t working.

The free access philosophy only benefits to common users like us, because we haven’t to pay to use different services. But there is other winner: the gadgets industry, who obtain great sales when they offer the posibility to check popular websites with their devices.

But obviously this is going to change… actually is changing; The New York Times for example is offering just a part of its content for free and this will be the trend for the next years.

Could the fee model succed? Maybe, but only the time gets the answer and us just can wait to know it.
